Sundberg named Sandburg president
First CSC grad in top post
Members of the Carl Sandburg College Board of Trustees voted unanimously at a special meeting Tuesday to name Lori L. Sundberg the sixth president of the college.
Current president Tom Schmidt announced his intent to retire in July 2010.
Sundberg serves as vice president of academic services at Sandburg. The woman who has held a number of positions at CSC since returning to the institution that gave her start as a student will become college president effective July 1, 2010.
The first CSC graduate to become president, Sundberg began her teaching career at CSC as an adjunct economics instructor in 1995. She then went on to serve as the college’s director of institutional research from 1997 to 2002, dean of human resources from 2003 to 2005 and vice president of administrative services from 2005 to 2007 before taking her present position.
“As a student, Carl Sandburg College had an enormous impact on my life, both as a new high school graduate when I attended and again later when I returned to begin my baccalaureate studies,” said Sundberg in a Tuesday news release.
Sundberg holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and history from Knox College, a master’s degree in business administration from Western Illinois University and a doctorate in business administration from St. Ambrose University. Sundberg, who operated a beauty salon from 1986 to 1995, also holds a cosmetology certificate from CSC, and has completed numerous leadership programs, including Leadership Greater Galesburg in 1996.
